1/ I find entirely absurd & utterly alarming that 🇨🇳 flexes its muscles in 🇺🇳 & denies 🇩🇪 credit by chopping its contributions to Libya just because Heiko Maas held a meeting with me.
2/ It is well known that Germany has taken a leading role in Libya and served as a key mediator to help end the conflict. When western democracies make efforts to make peace, China abuses this mechanism and force the world to keep silence on human rights issues and HK matters.
3/ It is beyond doubt that China is not a responsible player in world politics. Beijing is just more obsessed with suppressing dissidence against itself than the peacemaking efforts in Libya.
4/ Worse still, China begins to abuse global bodies like the UN Security Council as leverage to expand its political intimidation and censorship regime worldwide, putting western core values in jeopardy.
5/ Today, Beijing threats the world to remain silence on Hong Kong. Tomorrow, the same thing happens on its despicable treatments of Uighurs. How long is the world going to keep silent?
6/ I urged world leaders can stand against China’s reckless threat and speak up for human rights issues and freedoms in Hong Kong, because those are the values that we all cherish.
